USSSA 2026 Baseball Rules

Official Baseball Rules of USSSA

Tournament Format

  • 8U thru 12U pool play games will be played under a 2 hour drop dead time limit for 6 innings. 13U thru 18U will be played under a 2 hour drop dead time limit for 7 innings. To assist with maintaining the timeline of the tournament, no new innings will be started at the 1:45 mark. If the home team is winning at the 1:45 mark, the game will be considered complete. Pool play games may end in a tie. Standard USSSA tie breaker rules will apply for seeding purposes.
  • The Championship Game will not have a time limit. However the mercy rule is still in effect. The Championship Game cannot end in a tie. If the Championship Game is tied at the end of the final scheduled inning, the tie breaker rules will apply.
  • Single Day tournaments will include two pool play games (2 game guarantee). At the end of pool play, the top two seeds will compete in a championship game to determine the Tournament Champion.
  • Two Day Tournaments will include two pool play games on the first day (exceptions apply - such as Friday night games). Typically, Sunday will start elimination games (Bracket Play). Typically, two day events are single elimination starting Sunday (some exceptions apply if designated differently by the director). Teams can expect to play between 1-3 games in bracket play.
  • Teams should be prepared to play up to 45 minutes before their scheduled game time. Updates will be disseminated through the USSSA app & email.
  • To reduce the cost for teams, umpires will be paid at the plate. There will be two umpires per game (pool play included). Umpire fees will be split between teams. Baseballs will be provided by teams (again this reduces the cost of the tournament). If a team does not have game quality baseballs with the USSSA stamp, they will be available for purchase at the event. Typical pricing for Diamond Dol-1 baseballs is $60 per dozen. These baseballs make excellent practice baseballs when you're done with the tournament and you take them with you!
  • The score will be tracked by the field umpire using an official MADE / USSSA score card. This card is the official record for score and pitcher records (see pitching restrictions section). The card must be signed by both teams at the end of the game. The umpire will return this information to the tournament director, who will then update the event site.
  • Awards will be provided to the winning team and runner up. Awards may include rings, medals, and banners.

Sportsmanship

In order to maintain a good working relationship with quality umpires for all MADE events, MADE Baseball has taken a strong stance against unsportsmanlike behavior. We all know there is a national shortage of umpires effecting our sport. Any unsportsmanlike conduct toward umpires will not be tolerated. Umpires have the authority to restrict coaches to their dugout based on the behavior of their sideline, the players, or other coaches. If the behavior is not corrected or discontinued, the umpire has the authority to eject a coach or spectators. Once a coach is ejected from the game, they are no longer permitted to be on the premises of the event. Coaches that are also a parent are not exempt, and will not be allowed to remain on the premises for the remainder of the event (not just the game). Ejections will be reported to the event director, who will then notify the USSSA national office.

  • First Offense - A coach who is ejected during a baseball tournament will serve a one game suspension, not including the game the coach was ejected in. The coach will not be allowed to have direct or indirect communication with the team. The coach will be required to leave the premises until the suspension is over.
  • Second Offense - A coach who is ejected a second time during the same baseball tournament will be disqualified for the remainder of the tournament. The coach is not allowed to have direct or indirect communication with the team. The coach is required to leave the premises for the remainder of the event. The MADE Baseball director may elect to ban the coach from all future events, or institute a period of time to serve as the suspension. This decision will be made in coordination with the USSSA National Office.

Should a coach be ejected in the final game of the tournament (first ejection), the one game suspension will be served in the next MADE Baseball event the team participates in. For example, if a coach is ejected in the championship game on Sunday, and has a MADE Baseball League game scheduled for Wednesday, the coach is ineligible to participate in the league game. As mentioned above, more significant durations of suspension shall be imposed at the discretion of the MADE Baseball Director in coordination with the USSSA National Office.

These rules allow MADE Baseball to offer the most enjoyable events!

Age Determination

MADE Baseball uses the standard age cutoff provided by USSSA. The player may not exceed the age of their division as of April 30. The USSSA age calculator is linked below for your convenience.

Some exceptions apply, and can be found in the official USSSA rules by clicking the link above "Official Baseball Rules of USSSA". Although there are exceptions, MADE Baseball wants to be very clear that any use of an exception will be scrutinized by the director to ensure the fairest competition takes place. Team rosters will be reviewed by the tournament director prior to the event, and any concerns may require the team to provide birth certificates and additional documentation. Any evidence of cheating will be reported to the USSSA national office, and will likely result in a ban for a period of time, or an indefinite ban from all USSSA events. Again, MADE Baseball provides the highest quality events, and will do everything possible to ensure that teams are using only eligible players to ensure fair play.

USSSA Age Calculator

Rosters

Teams are required to enter their players in their roster prior to the start of the event. Team managers can do this using the USSSA team manager portal. MADE Baseball can assist with this process. Just ask if you need some help. Guest players are required to be reported using the guest player function in the USSSA team manager portal. Players cannot be registered on more than one USSSA roster. Teams are encouraged to use guest players as necessary, however they must be reported prior to the event.

Insurance

Teams are not required to provide COI's for tournaments. MADE Baseball purchases event insurance per team for every tournament.
